OVERVIEW Course Details Graduate with a Certificate IV in Massage Therapy Practice. Qualification: Massage Therapist 9 months approximately Delivery and Assessment The Certificate IV qualification includes both in-class & self-passed delivery. Assessment for this qualification includes assignments, examinations, individual activities (written and verbal) and structured activities (hands-on practical skill demonstration). What is involved in achieving this qualification? To achieve this qualification, students would need to attain competency in 10 Common Units and 3 Elective Units. RPL / RCC (Recognition or Prior Learning / Recognition of Current Competency) In most circumstances NHAA recognises qualifications issued by other RTOs under the AQF, and has RPL and RCC programs available with appropriate evidence and meeting NHAA standards. PRE-REQUISITES There are no pre-requisites for this qualification, however you are required to have sufficient literacy, numeracy and computer skills (year 10), and you will also need to be aware that this course is highly practically based and very hands on.

STRUCTURE The Certificate IV qualification includes both in-class & self-passed delivery. This qualification delivers the following Subjects of Learning: Introduction to Massage Pre-requisites: None The course is the Massage I component of the Certificate IV in Massage Therapy Practice and conforms to government accreditation guidelines. Relaxation Massage II Pre-requisites: Massage 1 This subject is a four day course and been specifically structured for the massage industry and is a prerequisite for any Student wishing to undertake Supervised Clinic. The subject trains and provides experience to Students in a broader spectrum of massage techniques, which include, amongst other skills, invigoration and percussion techniques. As part of the training students are introduced to elements required for undertaking Supervised Clinical Practice which is required to be undertake at the Academy to satisfactorily achieve a qualification. On satisfactory completion of the course Students are expected to be capable of performing a full body massage to professional standards which incorporate the following elements:Muscular & skeletal anatomy Pre-requisites: None This subject is a two day course specifically tailored with the massage industry in mind. While taking Students through the requirements of a vital and prerequisite first aid course (HLTAID003 Provide First Aid) the course offered by the College has a focuses on common injuries that may be found or can occur within a massage clinical setting. The course is run at various times throughout the year dependant on numbers. In special cases where Students have a current valid equivalent qualifications or for strong reasons are unable to attend the scheduled dates Students may, upon request, be provided with an option to complete this qualification through another Registered Training Organisations where the course meets the national accreditation requirements and the RTO is reputable and acceptable to NHA Australia. Pre-requisites: None Anatomy and Physiology 1 is structured through an on-line access learning program and separate compulsory in class tutorials which cover the following areas that are more specific to massage therapists:- Anatomical Terminology Assessment is conducted by way of satisfactory achievement in tutorial class participation, practical demonstration of the knowledge gained, completion of a written assessment workbook and an individual formal1 hour exam. Please note the cost of the tutorial sessions are not covered or included as part of the A&P1 and separate fees apply for these sessions. Pre-requisites: None This subject covers such topics as infection control, hazard identification and Risk assessment within a clinical practice. This course also focuses on the importance of health and safety as a therapist and the importance of setting yourself up correctly and safely.Assessment is done in the way of written assessment workbook and a portfolio of works. Pre-requisites: Satisfactory completion of the subjects of Massage 1 & Massage 2 and Clinical First Aid Students obtain practical real life skills and experience by providing massage treatments to Clients who are in the main from the general public. The Supervised Clinic allows Students to practice skills and techniques they have learned in Massage 1 and 2 and apply these to members of the public in an authentic massage clinic environment, while providing important and invaluable “hands on” time that enhances and expands the skills of the Student. These sessions allow Students to receive valuable feedback so as to improve their techniques and treatments. Further this element of training assists the Student on the path to obtaining their industry accreditation. Supervised Clinic is a required component of both the Certificate IV in Massage Therapy Practice and the Diploma of Remedial Massage each of which have specific Supervised Clinic hours requirements. Supervised Clinic Hours are (Subject to change without notice): Pre-requisites: Satisfactory completion of the subjects of Massage 1 & Massage 2 and Clinical First Aid Students obtain practical real life skills and experience by providing massage treatments to Clients who are in the main from the general public.
